(-23) ON 04/09/2008, A HAWKER BEECHCRAFT FIRST TEST FLIGHT OF AIRCRAFT E-3849, A BE 36 BONANZA, N984W, DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 AT KBEC. THE PILOT DEPARTED TRAFFIC FOR THE NORTHEAST AREA TO PERFORM NORMAL TEST FLIGHT FUNCTIONS. WHILE CLIMBING THROUGH FIVE THOUSAND FEET THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED AND THE PILOT SET UP GLIDE AND STARTED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. ALL EFFORTS BY THE PILOT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN ATTEMPTED RESTARTS OF THE ENGINE. FROM FIVE MILES OUT OF EL DORADO KANSAS THE AIRCRAFT WAS TURNED TOWARD KEQA. REALIZING THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE FOR THE KEQA APPROACH THE PILOT ALIGNED THE AIRCRAFT WITH AN EAST/WEST COUNTRY ROAD WHERE THE AIRCRAFT WAS LANDED. UPON ROLL OUT THE AIRCRAFT'S RIGHT WING STRUCK A FENCE POST RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT SECURED THE AIRCRAFT AND WAITED FOR EMERGENCY CREWS TO ARRIVE. SEE ATTACHED FOR AMPLIFIED DETAILS OF THE INVESTIGATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
