## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 11, 2008 WHILE ON APPROACH TO FORT LAUDERDALE EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (FXE), ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HEARD A NOISE OF SOMETHING HITTING THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT. IT WAS DISMISSED AS MAYBE A BIRD. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT INCIDENT. DURING THE POST FLIGHT INSPECTION ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FOUND THAT THE RIGHT ENGINE PROPELLER SPINNER/BULKHEAD HAD BROKEN AND PART OF IT WAS EMBEDDED INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE NOSE. PILOT DID NOT HAVE ANY INDICATIONS DURING THE FLIGHT THAT THE SPINNER BROKE OFF. THERE WAS NO ENGINE VIBRATION INDICATED. DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH THE DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE FOR AIR ORLANDO AIRPLANT FLIGHT TRAINING AND RENTAL, LLC. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE SPINNER BULKHEAD INSTALLED WAS THE INCORRECT PIPER PART NUMBER AND THAT IT HAD BEEN MODIFIED TO A HARTZELL SERVICE BULLETIN. THE FLIGHT WAS AN INSTRUCTION FLIGHT FROM ORL, AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED BY THE AIR ORLANDO FLIGHT AND RENTAL FACILITY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
