## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN N9832G ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN A FARM FIELD DUE TO LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. GROUND SCARS INDICATE THAT THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AND BOUNCED. THE NOSE GEAR SANK INTO THE MUDDY TERRAIN, SEPARATING THE NOSE TIRE ASSEMBLY FROM THE NOSE GEAR, AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER COMING TO REST IN AN INVERTED POSITION APPROXIMATELY 60 FEET AFTER FIRST TOUCHING DOWN. THE FLIGHT CONTROLS WERE CHECKED FOR CONTINUITY, WITH NO DISCONTINUITY FOUND. THE WING FLAPS WERE FOUND IN THE RETRACTED (UP) POSITION. THERE WAS NO SMELL OR LEAKAGE OF FUEL AT THE CRASH SITE, AND BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FUEL CAPS WERE INSTALLED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08LA108](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08LA108), Apr 21, 2008: Cessna 172L (N9832G), Fairfax, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Fuel exhaustion as a result of the pilot's inadequate preflight inspection and inaccurate fuel calculations.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
