## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 21, 2008, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OPERATED A VELOCITY XLRG, N949WR, (AN AMATEUR-BUILT AIRCRAFT), AT THE TACOMA NARROWS AIRPORT. DURING THE INITIAL OPERATION, THE PILOT STARTED WITH A TOUCH AND GO ON RUNWAY 17 WHERE HE FELT A NOSE WHEEL SHIMMY. HE THEN PULLED UP AND DECIDED TO DO AIRWORKS AWAY FROM THE PATTERN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, THEN CAME BACK TO THE PATTERN, AND LANDED. DURING LANDING, THE PILOT PULLED THE NOSE WHEEL OFF THE GROUND TO STOP THE SHIMMY AND DID IT FOR A FEW TIMES BUT PERSISTED. FINALLY AFTER APPLYING THE MAIN BRAKES, THE NOSE STRUT BROKE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
