## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 23, 2008 AT 11:15 LOCAL TIME, PIPER PA-18 N1588P REGISTERED TO WAR EAGLES AIR MUSEUM OF SANTA TERESA, NM WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 AT THE SANTA TERESA AIRPORT (5T6) AFTER A FLIGHT FROM MCGUIRE RANCH, TX. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT A GUST OF WIND FROM THE LEFT, LIFTING THE LEFT WING UP FAR ENOUGH TO FORCE THE RIGHT WING TO CONTACT THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO GO AROUND, BUT THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED RIGHT OFF THE RUNWAY AND INTO A DRY CREEK BED AND NOSED OVER ONTO ITS BACK. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH ONLY MINOR CUTS. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE. WEATHER WAS CLEAR, WIND WAS 250/14G28 AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA113](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA113), Apr 23, 2008: Piper PA-18 (N1588P), Santa Teresa, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control. Contributing to the accident was the strong gusty crosswinds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
