## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT IN COMMAND ATTEMPTED THE FIRST FLIGHT OF THE DAY WITH A FULL LOAD OF FUEL AND FULL HOPPER FROM A PRIVATE AIRFIELD 10 MILES SOUTH OF ARTESIA, NM. THE PIC DECIDED TO TAKEOFF UP-HILL ON RUNWAY 29 BECAUSE OF THE PREVAILING WIND (340@ 23 G 28). THE PIC WAS UNABLE TO ESTABLISH AN INITIAL CLIMB AND BEGAN TO SETTLE BACK TO THE GROUND. THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO DUMP CHEMICALS TOO LATE AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND, CARTWHEELED, AND CAME TO REST UPRIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME AND ENGINE. THE PIC WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA116](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA116), Apr 25, 2008: Air Tractor AT-402 (N402SK), Carlsbad, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper decision to takeoff uphill with full fuel and fuel chemical load. A factor was the pilot's failure to calculate performance data.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
