## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TOOK OFF FROM A DIRT ROAD WHERE HE HIT A RUT AND HEARD A LOUD POP; THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE RIGHT MAIN TIRE TO SEPARATE FROM THE TRIM. THE PILOT COULDN'T SEE THIS DUE TO THE FACT HE WAS IN THE LEFT SEAT. DURING THE FINAL APPROACH INTO NOKIA DOME LANDING STRIP N185KH DEVELOPED A HIGH SINK RATE HITTING THE GROUND VERY HARD CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BOUNCE. THE LEFT WING SHOWS EVIDENCE OF HIGH NEGATIVE G'S, A BENT STRUT AND PROBABLE LEFT WING SPAR DAMAGE AND PROBABLE ATTACH POINT DAMAGE. THE A/C VEERED TO THE LEFT DUE TO LEFT TURNING TENDENCIES BECAUSE OF THE ALREADY LOW AIRSPEED AND HIGH POWER APPLIED BY THE PILOT IN HIS ATTEMPT TO RECOVER. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, POWER WAS REDUCED AS THE PILOT REALIZED HE HAD LOST CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TWO SMALL TREES, THE NOSE THEN IMPACTED THE GROUND AND CAME TO REST ON ITS TOP APPROXIMATELY 270 YARDS FROM THE WEST END OF THE STRIP AND 25 YARDS NORTH. WILL CONTACT SCOTTSDALE FSDO FOR AN INSPECTION AFTER AIRCRAFT HAS BEEN RECOVERED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA129), May 3, 2008: Cessna A185F (N185KH), Mexican Hat, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
