## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING AT 1100 FEET WHILE ON BASE LEG TO THE PELION AIRPORT, SC (6JO). THE PILOT ELECTED TO TRY AND MAKE THE AIRPORT RATHER THEN LAND IN AN OPEN FIELD BELOW. THE AIRCRAFT (A/C) HIT THE RAISED ROAD AND SHEARED THE GEAR OFF OF THE A/C. THE A/C SLID ACROSS A HIGHWAY AND CAME TO REST IN THE AIRPORT PERIMETER FENCE. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO A/C AND MINOR INJURIES TO BOTH OCCUPANTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08LA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08LA125), May 4, 2008: Rans S-12 XL (N9148Y), Pelion, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to the improper actions of the instructor pilot and the low experience level of the instructor pilot in this make and model of aircraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
