## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 9, 2008, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS THE PILOT OF A 1981 PA-36-300 N2368Y, THAT HAD JUST DEPARTED THE THOMAS, OKLAHOMA (1O4) AIRPORT WITH A LOAD OF 150 GALLONS OF WATER TO RINSE OUT THE AIRCRAFT'S HOPPER OF A FUNGICIDE THAT HE HAD BEEN APPLYING TO A LOCAL WHEAT FIELD. SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE WHEN THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MADE THE FIRST POWER REDUCTION, THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS STILL RUNNING SMOOTHLY THE ENGINE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THEN JETTISONED THE LOAD OF WATER APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF A MILE SW OF THE AIRPORT AND MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A VERY LUSH - 30 INCH TALL FIELD OF WHEAT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED IN A SE DIRECTION, CONTACTING THE GROUND WITH THE RIGHT WING AND SNAPPING OFF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR, FOLDING THE 3 BLADED PROPELLER AND TEARING FREE THE SPRAY BOOMS - BUT KEPT THE AIRCRAFT UPRIGHT AND EXITED THROUGH RIGHT MAIN AIRCRAFT DOOR. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS UNINJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. SEE ATTACHED STATEMENTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA136](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA136), May 9, 2008: Piper PA-36 (N2368Y), Thomas, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The disconnected throttle linkage resulting in the loss of engine power during takeoff-initial climb. A factor contributing to the accident was the muddy forced landing site.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
