## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT LANDED ON AN UNMAINTAINED BACKCOUNTRY LANDING STRIP LOCATED WITHIN THE GLEN CANYON RECREATIONAL AREA IN SAN JUAN COUNTY, SOUTHEASTERN UTAH; THE AIRSTRIP IS NOT DEPICTED ON THE FAA'S DENVER SECTION AERONAUTICAL CHART, WHICH INCLUDES THE ACCIDENT SITE AREA. DUE TO THE REMOTE LOCATION AND LACK OF FACILITIES AT THE LANDING SITE, CONDITION OF THE RUNWAY COULD NOT BE ACCURATELY DETERMINED PRIOR TO LANDING. THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT LONG AND SUBSEQUENTLY VEERED LEFT NEAR THE END OF THE LANDING STRIP AND WENT DOWN AND EMBANKMENT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS NOSE AND RIGHT WINGTIP. DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE RIGHT WING TIP AND TO THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08LA135](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08LA135), May 9, 2008: Maule M-5-235C (N9030E), Oljato, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to achieve a normal touchdown location and loss of directional control during landing roll out. Contributing to the accident were the runway's soft surface and short length.
