## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE IN THE PATTERN FOR LANDING, THE AWOS WAS REPORTING THAT THE WIND HAD SHIFTED DIRECTIONS 3 OR 4 TIMES. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 21. DURING HIS LANDING, THE WIND SUDDENLY SHIFTED AND HIS RIGHT WING LIFTED UP. IN CORRECTING FOR THIS SUDDEN GUST, HIS LEFT WING AND PROP STRUCK THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SLID DOWN THE RUNWAY AND ROTATED 170 DEGREES OFF THE RUNWAY INTO THE GRASS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA130](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA130), May 10, 2008: Beech B19 (N9342S), Burns, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions and failure to maintain directional control. The shifting wind was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
