## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 14 MAY, 2008 MR ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HOLDER OF AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT CERT. NO. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, WAS DELIVERING A MOONEY M-20TN, N1032X, TO IT'S NEW OWNER IN GERMANY. THE PILOT WAS ON THE FIRST LEFT OF THE TRIP FROM LAKELAND, (LAL), FLORIDA TO ELIZABETHTOWN (EYF), N.C. CLIMBING TO 25,000 FEET MSL WHEN HE WAS TESTING THE 50 GALLON FERRY FUEL TANK WHICH CONTAINED LESS THEN 10 GALLONS OF FUEL. DURING THE TEST, THE PILOT LEVELED OFF AT THE ASSIGNED ALTITUDE, SET CRUISE POWER AND WAS LEANING THE MIXTURE WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. THE PILOT EXHAUSTED THE FUEL IN THE FERRY TANK. THE PILOT EXECUTED EMERGENCY PROCEDURES TO GET THE ENGINE RESTARTED, LOSING 200 FEET OF ALTITUDE IN THE PROCESS. ONCE THE ENGINE STARTED, THE PILOT CLIMBED BACK TO THE ASSIGNED ALTITUDE. JACKSONVILLE AIR ROUTE TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTER 9ARTCC) FILED AN INCIDENT REPORT BECAUSE VERTIAL SEPARATION WAS LOST WITH UNITED AIRLINES FLIGHT UAL9956 WHICH WAS AT 24,000 FT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
