## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN INTERVIEW, THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST BEEN FILLED WITH PELLET FERTILIZER. THE AIRCRAFT FUEL TANKS WERE APPROXIMATELY HALF FULL. HE HAD JUST TAKEN OFF AND WAS SETTING UP TO MAKE HIS INITIAL PASS WHEN THE ENGINE SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER. HE ESTIMATED THE TEMPERATURE TO BE APPROXIMATELY 103 DEGREES F. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE WINDS WERE STIFF. HE SAID THAT AS HE TOUCHED DOWN ON THE FIELD THE MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUCK AND EMBANKMENT WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT LINEAR MOMENTUM TO SLOW QUICKY, CAUSING THE NOSE OF THE AICRAFT TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT WENT HIGH AND OVER. THE PROPELLER DUG INTO THE DIRT AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS BACK OR TOP WING. THE LOCAL AREA WEATHER WAS RECORDED AS BEING;100.9 F, 91 PERCENT HUMIDITY, 6 MPH SE WINDS, 29.88 BAR PRESS. A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE AND PROPELLER REVEALED THAT THE PROPELLER WAS AT A LOW RPM STATE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, BUT NO EXTENRAL INDICATIONS FOR LOW ENGINE POWER WERE FOUND. FURTHER INSPECTON OF THE ENGINE REVEALED 'NO METAL' CONTAMINATION IN THE OIL, A COMPRESSION CHECK OF THE ENGINE, YEILDED THE FOLLOWING COLD MOTOR FINDINGS: CYL. NO. 1=75PSI, 2=68 3=24, 4=70, 5=68, 6=78, 7=78, 8=80, 9=50

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN08CA091](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN08CA091), May 20, 2008: Grumman-Schweizer G-164A (N5083), East Bernard, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: Two engine cylinder exhaust valves stuck open for an undetermined reason, resulting in a loss of engine power.

## Other reports on N5083 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19810723045429A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19810723045429A), Jul 23, 1981: Grumav G164A (N5083), Howard City, MI, Substantial damage. Engine quit on swath run. Hit rock on landing, flipped over. Found main jet and needle float seat loose in carb.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
