## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 23, 2008, AT 1018 LOCAL CENTRAL TIME, THE FLIGHT CREW FOR FRONTIER AIRLINES (DBA OF REPUBLIC AIRLINES INC), OPERATING AS FLIGHT NR 4713 DEPARTING FROM INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (IND) TO DENVER, COLORADO (DEN), DIVERTED TO WICHITA KANSAS (ICT) DUE TO SMOKE IN COCKPIT AREA. AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED. THE AIRCRAFT HAD 65 PASSENGERS ONBOARD. WICHITA AIRPORT AUTHORITY SAFETY VEHICLES RESPONED TO THEIR LOCATION FOR 19R RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY ON 19R RUNWAY AND TAXIED TO GATE 1. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INSPECTED BY A WICHITA AIRLINES MAINTENANCE CONTRACT MECHANIC. THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR FIRE VISIBLE IN THE COCKPIT BUT AN ODOR OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WAS PRESENT. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY UNIT BLACK OUT AND THE ODOR THEN TOOK PLACE INSIDE THE COCKPIT OF THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
