## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TAKING OFF FROM A PRIVATE AIRFIELD, THE AIRCRAFT GRADUALLY LOST POWER WHILE PERFORMING A LEFT HAND CLIMBING TURN. AS THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LOSE ALTITUDE, THE LOWER LEFT HAND WING STRUCK A TREE AND SHEARED OFF APPROXIMATELY TWO FEET OF THE WING TIP. AS A RESULT OF THE TREE STRIKE, THE AIRCRAFT YAWED AND DESCENDED (WINGS LEVEL) DOWN AND EMBANKMENT INTO A WOODED AREA AND BECAME LODGED BETWEEN TWO LARGE TREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08LA196](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08LA196), May 25, 2008: Boeing A75N1 (N46996), Romney, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power during takeoff due to failure of the left magneto. Contributing to the accident was unsuitable terrain to conduct a forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
