## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 26, 2008, THE PILOT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT (N4GJ) DEPARTED RUNWAY 34 AT ROSEBURG AIRPORT. AT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET IN THE AIR, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER. HE BEGAN A LEFT TURN, LOST ALTITUDE, CONTACTED THE GROUND, WENT THROUGH THE PERIMETER FENCE, SLID ACROSS A STREET, AND CAME TO REST ON A SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF A MOTEL 6. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO EGRESS SAFELY WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES BUT THE AIRCRAFT DAMAGE WAS SUBSTANTIAL. A WITNESS STATED THAT "ENGINE OPERATION SOUNDED NORMAL" ON TAKEOFF AND ROTATION.
