## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED WILEY POST AIRPORT AT APPROXIMATELY 10:40 AM LOCAL TIME. IT MADE A RIGHT DEPARTURE TURN TOWARD THE WEST, HEADED FOR THE KINGFISHER VOR TO PERFORM TESTING OF NEWLY INSTALLED AVIONICS EQUIPMENT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF LEVEL FLIGHT AT 2500 FEET MSL, THE PILOT DECIDED TO CLIMB TO 3000 FT MSL. DURING THAT CLIMB THE ENGINE BEGAN TO MAKE A SUBTLE BACKFIRE NOISE. AFTER APPROX 20 SECONDS IT LOST POWER COMPLETELY. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS TO RE-START THE ENGINE WERE UNSUCESSFUL. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN A WHEAT FIELD.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
