## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) HEMS HELICOPTER WAS MAKING A NIGHT APPROACH TO A VENEER FACTORY IN SMITHFIELD, KY. PILOT ILLUMINATED AND EXAMINED LANDING AREA PRIOR TO LANDING AND LANDED WHERE INSTRUCTED BY ON SCENE PERSONNEL. PILOT SAID HE NOTICED TALL GRASS AND A POLE IN VICINITY OF LANDING AREA. UPON LANDING HE HEARD A THUMP AND AFTER SHUTDOWN SAW WHERE THE GROUND ACTUALLY ROSE UP BEHIND HIM, AND THE COMPOSITE FAIRING UNDER THE FENESTRON HAD MADE CONTACT WAS SITTING ON THE GROUND DAMAGING THE FAIRING. HE STATED THAT BEING NIGHT AND WITH THE TALL GRASS IT WAS VERY HARD TO TELL THIS DURING THE APPROACH AND LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
