## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS CLEARED TO LAND RUNWAY 34, WINDS WERE LIGHT, 320/04. THE LANDING APPEARED TO BE NORMAL BUT AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED AND THE TAIL BEGAN TO SETTLE THE PILOT PERCEIVED A GUST OF WIND WHICH MOVED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT OFF OF CENTERLINE. WHEN HE TIED TO CORRECT AND MOVE BACK TO THE CENTERLINE THE AIRCRAFT DID AN UNCONTROLLED 180 DEGREE RIGHT HAND TURN. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST AS THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA148](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA148), May 31, 2008: Aviat A-1B (N172HY), Ogden, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing. A contributing factor was the variable wind condition.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
