## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TOUCHING DOWN DURING THE PLANNED WHEEL LANDING THE PILOT STATES THAT JUST AS THE TAIL WHEEL DROPPED THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT. WHEN THE RIGHT MAIN WENT INTO THE SOFT SOIL AT THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY THE RIGHT GEAR COLLAPSED AND FOLDED UNDER THE AIRCRAFT. THIS ALSO CAUSED A PROP STRIKE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY HE LOST CONTROL AND THERE HAS BEEN NO EVIDENCE OF A MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE REPORTED AS WINDS LIGHT AND VARIABLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA150](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA150), Jun 2, 2008: Piper PA-22-135 (N8279C), Logan, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind condition and failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll. Contributing to the accident was a crosswind wind gust.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
