## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRE-DEPARTURE ENGINE POWER RUNS INDICATED NORMAL MAG CHECKS. DURING CLIMB-OUT THRU 250 FEET THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING POWER AND RPM DROPPED FROM 2600 THRU 2200. PILOT VERIFIED FUEL BOOST PUMPS "ON" WITH NORMAL PRESSURE @ 26 PSI, AND MAX THROTTLE POSITION. THE LEFT WING TIP STRUCK A SMALL TREE BRANCH DURING TOUCHDOWN, RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT BEING SPUN AND DROPPED INTO A STREAM. THE PILOT SHUTDOWN AIRCRAFT ELECTRICAL POWER AND FUEL SELECTION THEN EVACUATED WITH THE PASSENGER. FUEL SAMPLES TAKEN DURING THE POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION AFTER RECOVERY, SHOWED NO CONTAMINATION, THE ENGINE RUNS, INDICATED NORMAL "IDLE" OPERATION, BUT DURING "POWER" RUN, THE RPM DROPPED WITHIN 12 SECONDS FROM 2600 TO 2200 WITHIN 30 SECONDS, WITH FUEL PRESSURE READING 26 PSI. THERE IS NO ACCIDENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE OR PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC08LA074](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC08LA074), Jun 9, 2008: Lake L-4 (N13RZ), Girdwood, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power for an undetermined reason, which resulted in a forced landing. Contributing to the accident was rough and uneven terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
