## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) SKYWEST FLIGHT 5769 SCHEDULED TO OPERATE FROM MODESTO, CA (MOD) TO LOS ANGLES, CA (LAX) DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT DURING DESCENT AND DIVERTED TO BAKERSFIELD, CA (BFL). THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY AND THE CREW INITIATED AN EMERGENCY EVACUATION ON THE TAXIWAY AFTER LANDING VIA THE ENTRY DOOR. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO FIRE AND CONFIRMED THE SMELL OF SMOKE. DURING THE INVESTIGATION BY SKYWEST MAINTENANCE, OIL AND OIL MIST WAS FOUND IN THE ICC CAVITY AREA OF THE RIGHT ENGINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
