## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE WAS AT 1000' AGL OVER TV HIGHWAY NEAR CORNELIUS PASS ROAD, FLYING A HEADING OF 300 DEG. FOR A STRAIGHT-IN LANDING FOR HIO RUNWAY 30 WHEN THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND MISSED. THIS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF FROM AURORA AIRPORT (UAO). PILOT DECIDED TO LAND IN FIELD. AFTER MAKING A SERIES OF LEFT TURNS, HE HAD AN UNEVENTUL LANDING WITH NO INJURIES AND NO DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. AFTER TOUCH-DOWN, AIRCRAFT ROLLED AND CAME TO REST ABOUT 215 PACES (APPROX 645 FEET) IN A FIELD WITH 2 FEET TALL ALFALFA. PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD APPARENTLY RUN OUT OF FUEL. HE SAID THAT HE HAD PERFORMED A PREFLIGHT AND HAD CALCULATED HIS TOTAL FUEL BURN, ALLOWING A 6 GALLON/45 MINUTE RESERVE. INSPECTION OF THE LEFT WING TANK FOUND IT TO BE COMPLETELY EMPTY AND THE RIGHT WING TANK AS ESTIMATED TO HAVE APPROX 2-3 GALLONS. THE PILOT STATED THAT WHEN HE LANDED AT UAO, NO PREFLIGHT WAS PERFORMED BEFORE TAKEOFF BECAUSE HE DID NOT SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE AS HIS PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
