## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE IN RAINY WEATHER FOR THREE DAYS PRIOR TO THE FLIGHT. THE PILOT STATED THAT AS PART OF HIS PREFLIGHT INSPECTION HE NOTED THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FUEL SAMPLES BUT REPEATEDLY SUMPED THE FUEL DRAINS UNTIL THEY WERE CLEAR OF CONTAMINATION. THE PRETAKEOFF RUN-UP WAS SATISFACTORY. ON TAKEOFF FROM RWY 29, POWER WAS LOST FROM THE FRONT ENGINE. DURING THE ABORTED TAKEOFF THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE IT OVERRAN THE END OF THE RUNWAY, AND IT PROCEEDED DOWN A ROCK-STREWN SLOPE. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE FRONT ENGINE FUEL STRAINER AND FUEL INJECTOR MANIFOLD WERE CONTAMINATED WITH WATER. ADDITIONAL WATER WAS DISCOVERED IN THE LEFT FUEL TANK, WHICH FEEDS THE FRONT ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN08LA121](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN08LA121), Jul 6, 2008: Cessna 337G (N53661), Point Lookout, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: A fuel flange seal leak and water in the fuel resulting in a loss of engine power during takeoff. Contributing to the accident was an inadequate preflight.

## Other reports on N53661 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19890831048659I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890831048659I), Aug 31, 1989: Cessna 337G (N53661), Chicago, IL, Minor damage. Pilot forgot to lower landing gear and landed with gear retracted. Stated he was distracted by other traffic.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
