## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT WAS ON TAKEOFF ROLL BEGINNING A SOLO FLIGHT OBSERVED BY CFI ON GROUND. AT ROTATION SPEED HE ROTATED THE NOSE UP AND FELT THE AIRCRAFT TURN TO THE LEFT DUE TO WHAT HE BELIEVED WAS A WIND GUST. HE APPLIED FULL RIGHT RUDDER TO COMPENSATE WITH NO AFFECT. THE NOSE THEN CAME DOWN AND HE DEPARTED THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT. THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR WAS SHEARED OFF EVEN WITH THE FUSELAGE, THE NOSE LANDIGN GEAR WAS BENT APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES, AND ALL 3 PROP BLADES WERE DESTROYED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS RESTING ON THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND THE RIGHT WING TIP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08LA164](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08LA164), Jul 8, 2008: Evektor-Aerotechnik SportStar (N918LA), Arlington, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff roll in gusty conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
