HOWEVER, AT THIS POINT HE DETERMINED HE WAS TOO SLOW AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH RUNWAY REMAINING TO ACHIEVE A SAFE FLYING SPEED. SO HE HELD THE BRAKES FULL IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP. HE DEPARTED THE END OF THE RUNWAY TOWARD THE BEACH. THE AIRCRAFT BRIEFLY SKIDDED ACROSS THE BEACH BEFORE ENTERING THE LAKE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN APPROXIMATELY 2-3 FEET OF WATER. HE AND HIS WIFE DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF FUEL OR OIL SPILLAGE.
