## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT FIRST SOLO FLIGHT. DURING INITIAL ROLL FOR TAKEOFF THE PILOT WAS VEERING RIGHT. INSTEAD OF POWERING DOWN AND CHECKING AC PILOT TOOK HIS HAND OFF THROTTLE AND LOOKED DOWN AT LOCKING BRAKE. THE LOCKING BRAKE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ENGAGED AS AC WAS ROLLING CORRECTLY. THE PILOT LOOKED BACK UP AND SAW ADDITIONAL RIGHT DRIFT AND HE OVERCORRECTED TO THE LEFT WHILE STILL UNDER FULL POWER. AC WENT OFF THE RUNWAY ON THE LEFT SIDE AND HAD BLADE, RIGHT WING, AND RIGHT TIRE DAMAGE. DURING REVIEW OF THE AC THE MECHANIC TESTED ALL AC CONTROLS, FROM BRAKES TO RUDDER AND NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THE CONTROLS. PILOT CONFIRMED THAT HE DID NOT FOLLOW NORMAL TAKEOFF PROCEDURE BY TAKING HIS HAND OFF THE THROTTLE AND LOOKING DOWN. COUNSELED PILOT TO ALLOWS FOLLOW OPERATING PROCEDURES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
