## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS ON RETURN TRIP TO SHELBY, NC (EHO) AFTER THREE HOUR FLIGHT FROM FLINT, MI (FNT). ALTHOUGH THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER IFR THE WEATHER WAS VFR AND NOT A FACTOR. THE PILOT CANCELED IFR WHEN THE SHELBY AIRPORT WAS IN SIGHT AND IT WASN'T UNTIL HE LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR THAT HE REALIZED THAT HE HAD A GEAR PROBLEM. THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR INDICATOR DID NOT INDICATE A SAFE GEAR EXTENSION AND AFTER MANUAL EXTENSION THE GEAR SAFE LIGHT STILL DID NOT INDICATE DOWN AND LOCKED FOR LANDING . THE PILOT RADIOED THE GROUND PERSONNEL AT SHELBY AIRPORT AND MADE A FLYBY SO THEY COULD VIEW HIS LANDING GEAR WITH BINOCULARS. THEY REPORTED THAT THE GEAR APPEARED DOWN AND LOCKED. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A LANDING AND THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED AT TOUCHDOWN. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE RIGHT WING, THE RIGHT ENGINE AND PROPELLER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
