## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STATE TROOPER PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF FROM A NARROW, GRAVEL ROAD. DURING THE TAKE OFF ROLL, HE REACHED DOWN TO ADD FLAPS, BUT COULD NOT PUT HIS HAND ON THE FLAP HANDLE. HE LOOKED DOWN MOMENTARILY, AND WHEN HE LOOKED UP, THE AIRCRAFT WAS HEADING OFF OF THE ROAD AND INTO THE WILLOWS. HE ATTEMPTED TO LIFT THE AIRCRAFT INTO GROUND EFFECT AND CLEAR THE WILLOWS, BUT LOST CONTROL, A MAIN WHEEL HUNG OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP UPSIDE DOWN. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC08TA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC08TA099), Aug 6, 2008: Piper PA-18 (N7055), Nome, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
