## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 9, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 1100, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY INTO A CORNFIELD AT LATHAM AIRPORT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT WHILE HE WAS ON APPROACH FROM THE WEST HE LET THE AIRCRAFT GET TO "LOW AND TO SLOW." AT THIRTY FEET SHORT OF RUNWAY 08 (GRASS RUNWAY) THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED INTO THE CORNFIELD AND IMPACTED THE GROUND TWENTY FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE FORCE OF THE HARD LANDING CAUSED THE NOSE WHEEL STRUT TO COLLAPSE. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT REACHED THE RUNWAY IT VEERED TO THE RIGHT OF CENTER AND PRECEDED FOR 220 FEET UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 65 FEET WHERE IT CAME TO A REST. AT THE 110 FOOT MARK THE GROUND SHOWED EVIDENCE OF THE PROPELLER STRIKING THE GROUND. AT THE 200 FOOT MARK THE NOSE WHEEL WAS SHEARED OFF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE NOSE IMPACTED THE GROUND RESULTING IN A SUDDEN STOP OF THE ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE FIREWALL AND THE MIDDLE OF THE RIGHT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
