## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N46974 WAS EN ROUTE FROM MESQUITE, NEVADA (67L) TO OCEANSIDE, CA (KOKB), ABOUT 4 TO 5 MILES SOUTH OF KOKB, THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO KOKB, BUT OVERSHOT RUNWAY 06 (LANDING DOWNWIND) BY ABOUT 3000 FEET RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WHEN THE PLANE IMPACTED A LOW BERM. FAA INSPECTORS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (OPS), AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (AW) INSPECTED N46974 AT KOKB ON 8/11/08. THE FUEL GAUGES INDICATED EMPTY ON THE LEFT TANK AND LESS THAN 1/8 IN THE RIGHT TANK. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE FUEL TANKS REVEALED THAT THE PORT TANK WAS DRY, AND THE RIGHT TANK HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL IN IT. APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF GALLON OF FUEL WAS RECOVERED FROM THE RIGHT TANK BY REMOVING THE DRAIN PLUG.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA264](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA264), Aug 10, 2008: Cessna 152 (N46974), Oceanside, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion that was caused by the pilot's inadequate fuel consumption calculations and failure to refuel the airplane en route.

## Other reports on N46974 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
