## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HAD BEEN SPRAYING THE FIELD WHERE THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED, MAKING PASSES FROM NORTH TO SOUTH, THEN PULLING UP OVER THE WIRES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE FIELD. HE MADE A FINAL PASS FROM EAST TO WEST TO CATCH THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THE CROP THAT WAS PLANTED RIGHT UP TO THE DITCH, ADJACENT TO THE EAST/WEST ROAD. DURING THIS FINAL PASS, HE DID NOT SEE THE GUIDE WIRES EXTENDING INTO THE FIELD FROM ONE OF THE POLES. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED ONE OF THE TWO WIRES, CAUSING THE CRASH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08CA243](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08CA243), Aug 11, 2008: Piper PA-25-235 (N7297Z), Cosmos, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the guide wire while maneuvering on an aerial application flight. Contributing to the accident was the presence of the guide wire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
