## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) SUBJECT AIRMAN STATED THAT FOLLOWING A ROUTINE TOUCH AND GO FROM RWY 03 AT KMGJ, HE NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AS HE TURNED CROSSWIND THE SMOKE INCREASED. AT THIS TIME HE DECIDED TO REVERSE COURSE AND MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON RWY 21. HE ANNOUNCED HIS INTENTIONS ON KMGJ UNICOM AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT THE SMOKE WAS CONTINUALLY INCREASING THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. HE LANDED SOMEWHAT LONG AND FAST AND AGGRESSIVELY APPLIED THE BRAKES, BLOWING BOTH MAIN TIRES. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE. POST INCIDENT INVESTIGATION INDICATED THAT THE NR 2 NAV/COM RADIO HAD SUFFERED AN INTERNAL FAILURE CAUSING IT TO EMIT SMOKE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
