## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 17, 2008, AT THE BUTLER COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT (HAO), AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 AM LOCAL TIME, AN INSTRUMENT RATED PILOT, WAS RECEIVING COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE DUAL TRAINING FROM A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) IN A MOONEY M20E AIRCRAFT. ON THEIR THIRD DEPARTURE FROM RUNWAY 29 AT HAO, AFTER COMPLETING TWO SHORT FIELD TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS, AT APPROXIMATELY 700 TO 800 FEET, THE INSTRUCTOR RETARDED THE THROTTLE TO SIMULATE ENGINE FAILURE. THE STUDENT THEN INITIATED AND SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A 180 DEGREE TURN BACK TO THE RUNWAY BUT FAILED TO EXTEND THE LANDING GER FOR LANDING. THE AIRPLANE LANDED ON THE RUNWAY GEAR UP AND WAS MOVED TO ITS HANGAR, AT HAO, TO CLEAR THE RUNWAY. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE CVG FSDO (GL-05) ON 8/17/08 VIA PHONE MESSAGE. THE CVG FSDO VISUALLY INSPECTED THE AIRPLANE ON 8/19/08 AND NOTED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
