## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT INDICATED HE WAS FILMING HORSES WITH A CAMERA THAT WAS MOUNTED ON THE RIGHT WING. HE SAID THE ENGINE HAD A "FLAT SPOT". HE SAID THE ENGINE WAS AT 4500 RPM AND NEEDED TO BE A 4700 OR 4800 RPM. HE THOUGHT A SPARK PLUG WAS FAILING AS IT HAD IN THE PAST. HE LANDED INTO THE WIND HEADING SOUTH. HE CHECKED THE SECOND SPARK PLUG WIRE, TURNED OFF HIS CAMERA, AND ATTEMPTED TO DEPART THE AREA. HE ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH DISTANCE. HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES, BUT THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO COME TO A STOP BEFORE STRIKING A SMALL WASH. BLOCK 15, AIRCRAFT IS A WEIGHT-SHIFT CONTROL. BLOCK 31, PILOT HOURS ARE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. NO REGULATORY CHECK RIDE REQUIRED FOR STUDENT PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA189), Aug 17, 2008: Aeros Venture (N707TN), Maricopa, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for a precautionary landing and subsequent takeoff attempt, and his misjudging of the required takeoff distance. The soft terrain was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
