## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT 0800 LOCAL TIME, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IN N1002W, A DA5B EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, HE COMPLETED BUILDING IN 2004, WAS CRUISING TO MONAHANS,TEXAS. HE HAD COMPLETED CLIMB-OUT FROM ODESSA, TEXAS (ODO) AND ENCOUNTERED TURBULENCE. THE VIBRATION CAUSED THE CARBURETOR TO SLIP OFF ITS RUBBER MOUNTING SLEEVES AND THE ENGINE QUIT. WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT HE MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT 9350 W. DUNN STREET IN ODESSA. HE STRUCK A FENCE AND SOME MEDIUM SIZE MESQUITE TREES, DAMAGING THE WINGS, LANDING GEAR AND TAILBOOM OF HIS HOMEBUILT AIRCRAFT. THE POLICE RESPONDED TO A CALL FROM A NEIGHBOR AND THEY TOOK PICTURES OF THE BROKEN AIRCRAFT BEFORE THE OWNER TRANSPORTED IT TO HIS HOUSE, ABOUT 2 MILES SW OF THE ACCIDENT AT 12846 W. WHIRLAWAY DRIVE IN ODESSA. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILED WHEN THE FLEXIBLE CONNECTORS AND CLAMPS DID NOT STAND-UP TO VIBRATION AND TURBULENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA211](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA211), Aug 21, 2008: Murray Frank H DA5B (N1002W), Odessa, TX, substantial damage.
