## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER LANDING AND WHILE TAXIING, THE SAFETY PILOT PASSENGER LEANED THE MIXTURE WHICH INADVERTENTLY SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE USING WHAT HE DESCRIBED AS COLD AND HOT START TECHNIQUES, THE ENGINE BACKFIRED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, BOTH THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER SAW A GLOW (THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE) COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE COWLING. BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND THE PASSENGER CALLED THE TOWER TO REPORT THE FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY AIRPORT PERSONNEL. INCIDENT NUMBER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
