## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT APPROACHED AIRSTRIP FROM THE NORTH AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 18. HE ATTEMPTED A "QUICK STOP" MANEUVER. DURING THE FLARE, THE HELICOPTER DESCENDED TOO QUICKLY AND HIT HARD. THE HELICOPTER BOUNCED TO THE RIGHT. THE RIGHT SKID SETTLED INTO A SHALLOW DRAINAGE CHANNEL AND THE HELICOPTER ROLLED AND SETTLED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE MAIN AND TAIL ROTOR BLADES WERE DESTROYED, THE CANOPY WAS DAMAGED, STRUCTURAL TUBING FROM THE FRAME TO THE SKIDS WAS BENT, AND THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZERS WERE DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08CA267](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08CA267), Aug 23, 2008: Hughes 269A (N2256W), Bremen, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain sufficient main rotor speed during the quick-stop maneuver. Contributing to the accident was the drainage ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
