## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 28, 2008, A CESSNA TR-182, N5523T, REGISTERED TO MINUTEMAN AVIATION, INC AS AN ON DEMAND CHARTER FLIGHT, MADE A HARD LANDING AT SPOTTED BEAR NFS RANGER STATION AIRPORT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND A COMPANY VFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE WIND SHIFTED TO A TAILWIND ABOUT FIFTEEN FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRPLANE STALLED. HE ATTEMPTED TO ARREST THE DESCENT WITH POWER, BUT STRUCK THE GROUND HARD ENOUGH TO SHEER THE NOSE LANDING GEAR OFF. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO A STOP ABOUT 250 YARDS DOWN THE RUNWAY AND THE PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE MISSOULA AIRPORT AROUND 11:20 AM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08LA284](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08LA284), Aug 28, 2008: Cessna TR182 (N5523T), Spotted Bear, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the variable wind conditions and failure to maintain adequate airspeed during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
