## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED ALBANY MUNI, OREGON (S12) ENROUTE FOR CARSON CITY, NEVADA (CXP). APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS SUBSEQUENT TO DEPARTURE, AT 9,500 FEET MSL, THE PILOT SMELLED SOMETHING HOT. ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED AND THE SMELL SUBSIDED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH. THE ENGINE OPERATION CONTINUED TO DETERIORATE REQUIRING AND EMERGENCY LANDING. UPON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A BERM AND THEN A FENCE, SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGE THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT STATED SHE BELIEVED THAT CARBURETOR ICE DEVELOPED AFTER HER POWER REDUCTION AND THAT SHE HAD FAILED TO APPLY CARBURETOR HEAT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA295](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA295), Sep 10, 2008: Miltenberger Family Fun (N903PD), Adin, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to carburetor icing and the pilot's failure to use carburetor heat.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
