## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 12 SEPTEMBER, 2008 AT ROUND 1500 (CST), ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PERFORMED A RUN-UP OF MOONEY N6646U AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. ONE MAG DROPPED ABOUT 75 ON THE FIRST TRY BUT SMOOTHED OUT. HE PERFORMED A SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF ON A GRASS STRIP AND GOT IN GROUND EFFECT AT 60 MPH. AT ABOUT AN ALTITUDE OF 40 FEET, THE ENGINE COUGHED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND DIED. THE STALL WARNING SOUNDED WHEN THE ENGINE SPUTTERED. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY AND TURNED LEFT TO AVOID THE PARKED AIRCRAFT IN FRONT OF THE HANGAR. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY WITH DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR, PROP, FUSELAGE AND WINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA230](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA230), Sep 12, 2008: Mooney M20D (N6646U), Grand Saline, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. Contributing to the accident was the lack of suitable terrain for a forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
