## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING THE TAKEOFF, THE PILOT OF MOONEY, N9317V, ABORTED THE TAKEOFF AFTER ROTATION. THE PILOT STATED AS HE LIFTED OFF, THE BAGGAGE HATCH OPENED UP. HE WAS WORRIED THAT IT MIGHT DEPART THE AIRCRAFT AND STRIKE THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. SINCE HE WAS ONLY A FEW FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY, HE DECIDED TO CLOSE THE THROTTLE AND LANDED BACK ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY. TRYING TO FINESSE THE LANDING USED UP MORE RUNWAY THAN HE REALIZED, AND AFTER LANDING HE COULD NOT STOP BEFORE RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUCK ONE OF THE RUNWAY END LIGHTS. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED A SMALL SCRATCH ON THE GEAR DOOR. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR ANYONE IN THE AREA.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
