## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT MADE A HARD LANDING ON THE NOSE LANDING GEAR (NLG). THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON THE MAIN RUNWAY AT DILLINGHAM AIRFIELD. PILOT STATED HE LANDED WITH HALF FLAPS SET AND REDUCED POWER. THE AIRCRAFT FLARED NORMALLY AND DURING TOUCHDOWN IT SEEMED TO LAND LIGHT A MAIN TIRE. WHICH HE THOUGHT A MAIN TIRE MIGHT HAVE BLOWN BUT WHAT HE FELT WAS THE NLG TIRE STRIKING THE RUNWAY. NLG STRUT ASSEMBLY SHEARED OFF AT THE UPPER ATTACHMENT POINT. NLG STRUT SHEARED OFF DUE TO NLG TIRE STRICKING THE RUNWAY SURFACE. FINDING: NLG TIRE STRUCK THE LANDING SURFACE HARD AND CAUSED THE NLG STRUT TO SHEAR OFF, THEREBY LOSING CONTROL DURING LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
