## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FAILURE OF TEH K106 RELAY B1B2 CONTACTS INITIALLY CAUSED LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE DC BAT BUS AND DC STBY BUS. AS DIRECTED BY THE QRH, CREW POSITIONED STBY PWR SELECTOR TO "BAT" POSITION WHICH CAUSED THE DC BAT BUS, DC STBY BUS, AC STBY BUS, AND HOT BAT BUS TO BE POWERED SOLELY BY THE MAIN BATTERY. THE CREW ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE FLIGHT. THE MAIN BATTERY POWER WAS DEPLETED IN 1 HR 40 MINUTES WHICH CAUSED THE LOSS OF NUMEROUS SYSTEMS THAT WERE THEN DEPENDENT ON THE MAIN BATTERY PWR. THE AIRCRAFT ANTI SKID, TR, SPD BRAKES WERE AFFECTED AND THE AIRCRAFT BLEW/DAMAGED ALL 8 TIRES AND BRAKES ON TOUCHDOWN. THE CREW DELIBERATELY STEERED THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY INTO THE TALL GRASS AND MUD TO STOP IT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08IA292](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08IA292), Sep 22, 2008: Boeing 757-223 (N197AN), Chicago, IL, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: The failure of an electrical relay due to eroded contacts and the flight crew's decision to continue a flight that was operating on battery power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
