## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 10/07/2008, I INVESTIGATED THIS ASSIGNED ACCIDENT AT HAWK'S NEST AIRPORT IN MOSCOW TN. THE PILOT STATED IT WAS THE SECOND LANDING OF THE DAY AND THE WINDS WERE OUT OF THE NE AT ABOUT 3 KNOTS WITH THE SKIES CLEAR. UPON LANDING HE HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED TO THE GROUND ON THE RIGHT LOWER WING WITH THE PROPELLER STRIKING THE GROUND IN SEVERAL PLACES ON THE RUNWAY. DURING MY INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THE CHAIN THAT CONTROLS THE MAIN LANDING GEAR WAS BROKEN AND WAS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. THE LOWER RT WING HAD SUBSTANTIAL FRONT SPAR DAMAGE ON THE OUTBOARD HALF, THE PROPELLER BLADES WERE CURLED ABOUT SIX INCHES AT EACH TIP AND THERE WAS SOME LOWER ENGINE COWL AND TAIL CONE DAMAGE. THE OWNER/PILOT STATED THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO HIMSELF OR THE PASSENGER AND NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUESTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA006](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA006), Oct 3, 2008: Beech F17D (N18555), Moscow, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The mechanical failure of the landing gear actuation chain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
