## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N246RR WAS CRUISING AT 11,500 FT WHEN THE PILOT NOTICED THE LEFT FUEL TANK GETTING LOW. HE SAID HIS RIGHT TANK WAS 3/4 FULL BUT DECIDED TO LAND IN TALLAHASSEE, FL ANYWAY. HE DESCENDED TO 3000 FT BUT WHEN TRYING TO INCREASE POWER AFTER THE DECENT, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. HE CHECKED THE GPS FOR THE NEAREST FIELD BUT FOUND IT TO BE OUT OF GLIDE RANGE SO HE LOCATED A ROAD TO USE FOR AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING. AS HE APPROACHED THE ROAD, A CAR APPEARED IN FRONT OF HIM, CAUSING HIM TO TURN LEFT AND LAND IN THE SOFT SAND BESIDE THE ROAD. HIS LEFT WING IMPACTED A TELEPHONE POLE AND HE CAME TO REST AFTER SPINNING SEVERAL TIMES. ALONG WITH THE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING, THE PROP IMPACTED THE GROUND AND WAS DESTROYED. THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR WAS BROKEN OFF AND THE RIGHT WING WAS DAMAGED WHEN IT HIT THE GROUND. THE FUSELAGE BUCKLED NEAR THE LEFT WING BUT NEITHER OF THE FUEL TANKS WERE DAMAGED AND NO FUEL LEAKED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. LESS THAN 5 GALLONS OF FUEL COULD BE DRAINED FROM THE PLANE THE NEXT DAY AND THE CRASH WAS 68 MILES FROM TALLAHASSEE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA011), Oct 9, 2008: Velocity SE-FG (N246RR), Chipley, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate in-flight fuel planning, resulting in loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
