## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED 1I3 (BLOOMFIELD IN) AT AROUND 1300 AND FLEW TO A PRIVATE STRIP ON GANNON ROAD IN WEST TERRE HAUTE IND. THE PILOT DID A LOW PASS JUST BELOW TREE TOP LEVEL TO THE SOUTH AND DETERMINED THAT LANDING WAS NOT POSSIBLE GIVEN THE WINDS. THE PILOT CIRCLED AROUND AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND TO THE NORTH AND ONCE BELOW THE TREE LINE LEVEL THE FLIGHT PATH WAS NO LONGER ALIGNED WITH THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SINK. FULL THROTTLE WAS APPLIED AND A CLIMB INTITIATED. THE PILOT DID NOT CLEAR THE TREES AND STRUCK THE TOPS AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE RUNWAY, BREAKING APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET OFF OF THE TOP OF THE SECOND TREE AND THEN SPUN THE AIRCRAFT AROUND 180 DEGREES WHERE IT FELL AND CAME TO REST IN A RAVINE. THE WINDS AT TERRE HAUTE HULMAN FIELD (HUF) RECORDED ON OCOTOBER 10 AT 1253 LOCAL TIME WERE 140 AT 11 MPH, AND AT 1353 WERE 110 AT 11 MPH. THE ORIENTATION OF THE 1200' LONG RUNWAY ON GANNON ROAD IS NORTH-SOUTH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA013), Oct 10, 2008: Pegasus Quantum (N5125A), West Terre Haute, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to adequately compensate for the crosswind during the go-around. Contributing to the accident was the crosswind condition and the trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
