## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF N764C WAS A STUDENT PILOT ON A SOLO FLIGHT AT LUFKIN, ANGELINA CO. AIRPORT (KLFK), PRACTICING TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS, HE WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT ONBOARD. THE PILOT STATED THAT ON HIS LAST LANDING ON RUNWAY 15 HE WAS GOING TO BE FULL STOP AND TAXI TO PARKING. AFTER LANDING ABOUT 1/3 DOWN THE RUNWAY, HE APPLIED TOE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED THE RIGHT BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT, THE PILOT THEN RELEASED ALL BRAKES AND STEERED THE AIRPLANE STRAIGHT WITH RUDDER. AT THIS POINT HE BEGAN PUMPING THE RIGHT BRAKE TRYING TO BUILD PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE LINES WITH NO SUCCESS. THE AIRCRAFT WENT OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY, DOWN AN EMBANKMENT, THROUGH A FENCE, AND CAME TO REST PARTIALLY ON A BLACK TOP ROAD ABOUT 80 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 33. EXAMINATION OF THE RUNWAY 15, BY INSPECTOR FOUND TWO (2) SKID MARKS, STARTED APPROXIMATELY HALF WAY DOWN RUNWAY, LEFT TIRE SKIDDING FIRST, THEN 100 FEET LATER, BOTH TIRES SKIDDING, JUST TO THE LEFT OF CENTER LINE, BOTH MARKS GOING TO THE LEFT, THEN BACK TO THE LEFT OF CENTER. APPROXIMATELY 400 FEET FROM THE END OF PAVEMENT THE SKID MARKS STOP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA020](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA020), Oct 11, 2008: Piper PA-28-181 (N764C), Lufkin, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper decision to takeoff with a known brake problem. Contributing to the accident were the malfunctioning brake and the rough terrain in the excursion area.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
