## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE HELICOPTER WAS BEING FLOWN FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT. THE OWNER/STUDENT HAD FLOWN FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AND MADE TWO LANDINGS. FOLLOWING A THIRD LIFTOFF, A HOVER WAS ESTABLISHED, AND THE HELICOPTER BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WESTBOUND. A CLIMB WAS INITIATED AFTER ACHIEVING 45 MPH, AND AT APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET AGL, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS, ATTEMPTED AN AUTOROTATION, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ARREST THE RATE OF DESCENT COMPLETELY. AS THE HELICOPTER IMPACTED THE GROUND, IT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, BUT THE OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR INJURIES.
