## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LET THE AIRCRAFT GET LOW AND SLOW ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 23. THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED LEFT OF THE RUNWAY AND THE LANDING GEAR CONTACTED THE PAPI LIGHT BOX. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO SET THE AIRCRAFT DOWN ON THE RUNWAY. THE NOSE GEAR AND RIGHT MAIN STRUCK THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY WHICH WAS ELEVATED APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE PROPELLER CONTACTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED ACROSS THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. (PILOT STATEMENT ATTACHED)

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA077](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA077), Nov 27, 2008: Cessna 172I (N35540), Frederick, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's delayed decision to abort the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
